is it love at first sight?

We're so happy to welcome you to Stone City and to share this beautiful, peaceful location with you!

We'd love to share a few things about us so we can be sure we're a match!

  • We currently have three structures available on the property (Stone City Treehouse, the Pebble Tent, and the Bedrock House) and they're all in fairly close proximity to each other (about 200'), but each space also has privacy.

  • THE TREEHOUSE AND TENT ARE GLAMPING! (or "Glamorous Camping").  We understand that bugs and spiders and wildlife are not for everyone, and that's fine.  But if you're going to stay here, be sure that you're okay with insects, spiders, and wildlife!

  • There is no wifi at the treehouse or tent and no cell phone signal anywhere on the property.  This is a place to disconnect from the digital world!  There is wifi available at the house for all guests, as well as access to a landline.

  • There is no running water at the treehouse and tent, and they both have compost toilets.

  • The cooking facilities at the treehouse and tent are basic - it's best to prep as much food you plan to eat on-site ahead of time.

  • Parts of the house are shared with all the structures, such as the parking, yard, porch, mudroom, and downstairs bathroom of the house.

  • The treehouse is a small space (thus the very limited capacity) and the sleeping area is accessed by a ladder.

  • We’re in Northern Vermont and it can be chilly year-round, so bring warm clothes, slippers, as well as outdoor-appropriate shoes.

  • Another important thing to understand is that this area of Vermont (the Northeast Kingdom) has snow all winter, and sometimes mud, especially in the spring. The treehouse is located two miles down a dirt/gravel road that can sometimes be challenging if it’s muddy or even snowy and icy. We can get a lot of snow sometimes and you could possibly get stuck on your way here or in the driveway. I do my best to keep the driveway clear of snow and sanded, but it’s not always possible all of the time. We live in a rural area and services are not always immediately available.

We'd also suggest checking out our FAQ section to understand what to expect during your stay!

Travel

The address is 1120 Nichols Pond Rd., Hardwick, VT 05843

When you come stay with us, please follow the directions shown below to our location if you are coming from the St. Johnsbury area / Interstate 91 and go up Brown Farm Rd. from Rt. 15 – Google Maps may send you up a road that is not meant to drive on with regular road-worthy vehicles and you will likely get stuck or damage your vehicle. Please also don’t use Waze in this location – it does not work well here, on the back roads.

IMPORTANT!!! If your GPS takes you up Coits Pond Rd., Corner Rd, Township Highway 45, or Dusty Swamp Rd, make sure to find another route. These are class four roads that are pretty rough to get over – impassable in the spring and winter (no joke – they become snowmobile trails).

If the road is muddy, my recommendation for navigating that is to go slowly and stay on top of the ruts. If it looks like your car could fall into a mud rut and disappear, take a different route! (This is rare, but it does – almost – happen sometimes!) You can contact me, too, if you have any questions about it, and I’ll try to keep you apprised of any extreme conditions.

All of that being said, most of the time there are no issues, but if you have access to a 4WD vehicle, ideally with higher clearance and snow tires, that is the best-case scenario.

Keep an eye on the weather and plan ahead: fall/winter/spring in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont is probably much more severe than where you’re from and being prepared for bad weather and challenging driving conditions is absolutely the best policy.

Arrival

Your accommodations will be ready by 4:00 PM. The instructions below should get you through check-in. Please read through all of the information below.

  • Please arrive no earlier than our agreed-upon time as it's very unlikely to be ready before that. (Check-in is 4pm)

  • Treehouse and tent parking are on the gravel on your right as you come down the driveway, in front of the signs (see picture, below). After parking, head toward the house and the key to the treehouse is hanging on the center of the shelf in the welcome kiosk.  House parking is around the driveway circle, next to the big boulder.

  • To get to the treehouse, go to your right around the kiosk and follow the edge of the yard (and the rope light when it’s dark). You will head into the woods and follow the path between the small firewood storage shed and a small oak tree at the edge of the yard.

  • To get to the tent, head to the right of the parking area, and then follow the signs to the tent.  The house should be accessed from the enclosed porch.

  • The key is to the second door of the treehouse - the first door in the treehouse entry, is unlocked, and the thumb plate rocks back and forth to open. In order to open the locked door you may have to pull on the door a bit while you turn the key, and vice-versa to lock.

  • You may use the garden cart, kept under the kiosk, to bring your things to your accommodations, if you'd like.  If you do, please bring it back in case anyone else needs it during your stay.

  • The house bathroom/shower is accessed through the enclosed porch and the door code to get in is 1120.  (See the location of the door in the pic below, to the right, circled in red).

  • The wifi network is Stone City Guest - enter your email address to access like you would at a hotel or coffee shop!
